-
High-temperature powder reaction systems play essential roles in many industrial processes, including metallurgical reduction, catalytic packed bed reactions, and resource recovery. In these systems, particle assemblies serve not only as reaction media but also as complex structures that govern gas flow, heat transfer, and chemical reactions. Structural changes in particle packed bed during reactions can significantly affect permeability, temperature distribution, and overall process behavior. Recent advances in particle-scale simulations, such as the discrete element method coupled with computational fluid dynamics, have enabled detailed analysis of particle assemblies and their interactions with multi physical fields. This article reviews the fundamental characteristics of high-temperature powder reaction systems and discusses how particle-scale simulations contribute to understanding structure-flow-reaction coupling. The potential application of these approaches to emerging resource recovery processes is also briefly introduced.
