地蔵作遺跡は、花見川右岸の舌状台地に立地する。　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　第２次調査では、縄文時代と推定される土坑３基・ピット１基と、近世の溝跡１条を検出した。近世の溝跡は、第１次調査で検出された溝跡の延長上に位置する。土坑が平面数珠状に連なる形態的特徴も類似することから、同じ遺構の広がりと考えられる。房総半島の牧に関連する遺構との比較から、この溝跡は畑地の開発に伴う区画溝であり、付属する大型の土坑がその害獣対策であったと推定した
