The purpose of this study is to construct a integrated model ofhousehold labor supply (both for employee work and self-employed work)and to test them against the observed data.By employee work (or employee work opportunity) I mean the opportunityfor earning by being employed by an employer.A synthesized model of household labor supply is required to answerthe following questions(1) Household menbers are confronted with two kinds of potentialearning opportunities; that is, being employed by an employee or beingself-employed. Accordingly, the mechanism by which household membersselect one or both of them has to be clarified.(2) The second question concerns the mechanism regulating the probabilitiesof selecting both opportunities or only one of them. This questionrelates to how many persons in a specific group of households participatein one or both of the opportunities.In order to answer the above questions, we constructed threemodels; that is (1) two models for type A households and (2) a generalizedmodel for household with two adult members. Type A households arehouseholds consisting of a man and wife and an unspecified number ofchildren under 15 years old, with the husband being gainfully employedby an employer and the wife being employed by an employer, beingself--employed, being employed for both opportunities or not beingemployed at all.
