研究代表者が提案しているノンエレメントミキサーを対象に, 非定常カオス混合反応過程について, 実験, 理論解析そして数値シミュレーション手法を用いて検討し, その詳細を明らかにした. 混合の様子はPLIF法により可視化した. また, 複数のLIF像を三次元的に再構成ることにより, 複雑なカオス混合過程を三次元的に再現し, その詳細な構造に検討を加えた. さらに, 対流混合の特性幅, 分子拡散の特性幅, および濃度の変化幅を用いることにより, 混合の不均一性も考慮した混合度を評価し, また予測することができることを示した.
