コリン作動性神経は中枢神経系において認知機能などに重要である。コリン作動性神経末端において、アセチルコリン合成の前駆体であるコリンは高親和性コリントランスポーター(CHT1)によって細胞外から輸送される。この輸送はアセチルコリン合成の律速段階となる。我々は、輸送基質であるコリンがCHT1の細胞内移行を誘導することによりその細胞表面発現量を制御することを新たに見出した。また、テトラヒドロピリミジン系薬がCHT1の競合的阻害剤であることを新たに見出した。
