本研究は、体内で最も濃度が高い(20mM) 副腎でのアスコルビン酸(Asc)の役割を副腎皮質の層別機能との関連から解明することを目的とした。遺伝的にAsc合成不能なラットを用い、Ascは球状層(zG)におけるアルドステロン生成に必須である通常の還元系に加えて補助的に電子を供与する因子となることを示唆する結果を得た。酸化されたAscを還元型に戻す系に関与するOMbがzGに多いこともAscがzGにおいてより重要であることを裏付けると考えられた。
