本論文は、社会的背景と本研究の目的を述べた後、28年間に亘る23木橋に対する実橋実験と構造解析から構造性能の実態把握、各検査法を統合して定量的に木橋の健全度を把握する減点法の開発、走行車両による木道路橋の3次元動的応答解析による応答変位から健全度を評価する手法の開発、また実質的な劣化曲線である経年による構造剛性の低減係数から健全度の定量的評価法の開発、さらに各種試験から直交木床版の構造性能の評価に基づいて、直交木床版を用いた2橋の実在橋梁を試験施工して４種類の防腐対策法に対する効果的な保全技術に検討を加えている。
