- 西川淵梅軒(如見)著。享保5(1720)年成立。 江戸時代の天文地理学者・西川如見による外国風俗の図譜。42の国と人物の様子について紹介されている。「琉球」の項では当時の琉球人の姿が描かれており、またその地理について「琉球ハ南海中乃島國なり古は竜宮といふ」という一文から始まる説明が簡単になされている。西川如見による江戸時代最初の本格的な世界地理書『増補華夷通商考』(1708年)にも琉球に関する記述があり、土産物として芭蕉布・黒砂糖などが挙げられている。Completed in 1720, this is an illustrated reference book on foreign customs by Enbaiken (also known as Joken) Nishikawa, an astronomer and geographer during the Edo period. It introduces forty-two countries and its people. Illustrations of Ryukyuans at the time can be seen in the section titled “Ryukyu.” There is a brief explanation of Ryukyu geography starting with the sentence “Ryukyu is an island nation in the middle of the southern sea and was called ‘Ryūgū’ in ancient times.” Nishikawa also includes a description of Ryukyu in his book titled Zōhō kaitsūshōkō (1708)—the first full-scale world geography book in the Edo period—citing bashōfu (textile) and brown sugar as local products.
