"October 5, 2013 was a big day for immigration and citizenship in the United States. Tens of thousands of protesters - undocumented immigrants, naturalized citizens, and native-born alike - rallied across more than 40 states around the country, from large cities like Los Angeles, New York, and Boston, to smaller places like Reading, Pennsylvania, Hobbs, New Mexico, and Yakima, Washington.1 In Minneapolis, nearly 2,000 demonstrators "marched from the Basilica of St. Mary, after an interfaith prayer service, to the plaza, hoisting flags and placards and chanting empowerment cries, including 'Si se puede!'"2 In Birmingham, Alabama, hundreds of rally participants listened to "the president of the N.A.A.C.P. in Alabama, [who] portrayed the immigration effort as part of broader civil rights activism in the state,"3 while in Reading, Pennsylvania, "demonstrators demanded that the congressmen sign onto or co-sponsor bipartisan immigration reform, speak on the House floor about the urgency of reform and oppose laws that promote racial profiling."4 These protests were all part of the National Day of Immigrant Dignity and Respect, as thousands of Americans joined President Barack Obama's call for Congress to pass immigrant legalization as part of a comprehensive reform package"--

"This book argues that there is an inherent relationship between EU fundamental rights and EU citizenship; namely they both have the same aim of protecting the individual. This is underpinned by the development of case law in the field by the Court of Justice of the EU (CJEU). However, it suggests that that relationship in recent years has been weakened as the Court has entered increasingly sensitive territory with regards protection of citizenship rights and fundamental rights. Writing in the post EU referendum environment, the author argues that this decline is attributable to the Euroscepticism which has worsened since the Eurozone crisis and arguments that leaving the EU would reduce immigration from the EU. It offers one of the first comments on the current political atmosphere. This is important given rising fears of immigration which underlie much of the dissatisfaction with the EU project, not a feeling prevalent only in the UK. It will look at the rights of migrant EU citizens in Member States other than their own, and the guarantees that exist as a matter of protecting their fundamental human rights, which are present alongside rights enjoyed as part of being an EU citizen"--

This book is based on the outcomes of the International Comparative Study on Citizenship Education and Education for ASEANness in ASEAN Countries for the fiscal years 2010 to 2013. In each chapter, it analyzes the awareness of school students in a respective country, while also discussing the importance of the Delphi survey results, a major feature of this project, for educational experts on citizenship education. Examining citizenship education in ten countries, it clarifies which type of citizenship education should be completed after ten years, and what level of citizenship should be acquired in ten years. It also compares the awareness of students from these ten countries from 2010 to 2013. The book argues that citizenship education is indispensable for surviving the twenty-first century, especially in terms of promoting citizenship education in schools

"Anthropocene and Cosmopolitan Citizenship criticizes the Westphalia system of international relations and, as an alternative, proposes cosmopolitan citizenship. The book offers a critique of the theory of international relations based on the Westphalian system and the principle of national sovereignty. At the end of World War II, the two superpowers agreed on a new international order that, to this day, has prevented a new world war. This era is over. The collapse of the Soviet Union and the economic and political affirmation of new international powers - such as China, India and Brazil - has generated a multipolar world, in which growing tensions between great and small powers are manifested, up to the threat of nuclear war.
