一般注記An increase in the frequency of microwaves used for processing of materials has a great potential for applications. A 3.5 kW 24 GHz compact gyrotron system for the laboratory research with extended functional capabilities has been developed. The maximum microwave power is produced when the electron beam voltage is 12 kV. The design of the transmission line features high an applicator on the gyrotron operation. The applicator is designed for both volumetric heating of materials and surface treatment by a focused wavebeam. This is implemented by using two changeable mirrors that direct microwaves into the applicator. The manual and automatic modes of PC-based control over the microwave processing are available. In both modes the system supports data acquisition from up to seven channels for temperature monitoring and five channels for the monitoring of gyrotron operation parameters. The system is equipped with a complete set of power supplies. To minimize the dimensions of the system, switch-mode power supplies are used. Experiments performed to this date have demonstrated the multifunctional operating capabilities of the system. Results of collaboration research work between IAP RAS (N. Novgorod, Russia) and FIR FU (Fukui, Japan) are presented.
