並列タイトル等Development of 400 GHz High-Power Pulse Gyrotron
一般注記A high power pulse gyrotron with a frequency around 400 GHz is now under development at FIR FU. In the first stage of the development, single mode oscillation of several second harmonic modes in the frequency range near 400 GHz was confirmed on a gyrotron which was optimized for the fundamental TE_<03> mode. Based on the experimental results from the first stage gyrotron, the second stage gyrotron was planned. The aim of this gyrotron was set to deliver 50 kW with a second harmonic mode. Careful design consideration was done and the second-harmonic TE_<65> mode was chosen for oscillation at 350 GHz. The second harmonic TE85 mode was also a promising candidate for oscillation at 390 GHz. Single mode oscillations of these modes have been confirmed in the oscillation test. A special water load was fabricated for measurement of the average power as low as 0.01 W. Then, dependencies of the output power on the cathode voltage, the beam current, the beam radius at the cavity, etc. have been obtained. The maximum power so far obtained is 36 kW. This value does not include the correction of the transmission efficiency of the water load and hence it is the lower limit. One of promising application of this gyrotron is the power source for Collective Thomson Scattering (CTS) in fusion plasmas. CTS is expected to provide the spatially resolved velocity distribution functions of not only thermal and tail ions but also alpha particles resulting from D-T fusion reactions. A feasibility study shows that use of a 400 GHz gyrotron with a power level of 100 kW in CTS in the large helical devise will produce a scattering signal with a good signal to noise ratio.
