一般注記We report on our research and development aiming for realization of an ultrafast terahertz time-domain spectroscopy (THz-TDS) system. To achieve the goal, we have proposed a new asynchronous optical sampling method, in which an optical pulse train with its interval incremented (or decremented) continuously and its one-cycle delayed replica are used as the pump and probe pulses. We demonstrated a 3-msec single-scan measurement of a THz waveform with a 312-ps time window. The relatively large timing-jitter (~10ps) of the laser system limited the detection bandwidth below 100 GHz. In addition, we also tried to improve the efficiency of photoconductive (PC) antennas, which are used as the emitter and detector in the THz-TDS system, by optimizing the antenna design. We found that the emission efficiency of the dipole-type PC antennas can be significantly improved by using a relatively long antenna length (~70 μm) without much sacrificing the emission spectral bandwidth.
