並列タイトル等Application of a Potential Profile for Controlling the Beam Laminarity in a Magnetron Injection Gun
一般注記In gyrotrons, magnetron injection gun(MIG)is a critical component, which must generate a high-quality electron beam with small velocity spread. With the increases in the current density and velocity pitch-factor α(the ratio of perpendicular to parallel velocities to the magnetic field line), a space-charge force becomes large and increases the velocity spread. In this study, much attention has been paid to make a method for shaping the optimum electrodes, and to minimize the velocity spread. One way to suppress the space-charge effect is to form a laminar electron flow. We have made clear the mechanism of a laminar flow formation to provide a guideline for the design of the electrodes. It is found that the laminarity can be controlled with the potential profile in the region between the cathode and the 1st anode. By using a properly-tailored potential profile,a high quality electron beam with 20 kV, 0.5 A, αcavity=1.0~1.7 and △αcavity<5% is successfully designed for a 265 GHz, 3kW gyrotron.
