並列タイトル等Improvement of Heterodyne Electro-Optic Sampling Scheme
一般注記Recently, we have reported a new electro-optic (EO) sampling scheme, that is, the "heterodyne EO sampling", where the EO sampling signal is detected as the intensity change in the probe beam without using any polarization optics. Theoretically, the heterodyne EO sampling process is described as the intensity modulation induced by interference between the optical probe wave and the optical wave generated by difference frequency mixing (DFM) or sum frequency mixing (SFM) with the THz radiation. In this paper, we report further improvement of the heterodyne EO sampling signal by a balance detection of the two signals originating from DFM and SFM. In the non-collinear Cherenkov-type phase matching, the direction of the optical wave generated by DFM is deviated from that generated by SFM, and its signal polarity arising from the interference with the probe optical wave is opposite to that of SFM. Therefore, the balance detection with a wave-front division gives us an enhancement by a factor of two in the signal magnitude and a reduced noise due to the common noise rejection. We successfully obtained the enhanced EO sampling signal in the balanced-heterodyne Cherenkov phase-matched EOS with a low noise level.
