一般注記The solubility of cellulose in dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO)/quatemary ammonium salts solution was studied under various cellulose conditions. Althought cellulose dissolved easily in DMSO/tetra-n-butylammonium fluoride (TBAF) solution, it did not dissolve in DMSO/tetra-n-butylammonium chloride or bromide. On the otber hand, DMSO/ tetra-n-ethylammonium chloride (TEAC) can dissolve cellulose at high concentration and temperature. Then cellulose dissolved in their solutions was reacted with various reagents such as vinyl esters., alkyl bromides, hexamethyldisilazane (HMDS) to convert it to the thermoplastic derivatives.Graft polymerization of methy1 methacrylate (MMA), styrene, E-caprolactone was also studied. The catalytic activity of TBAF was larger than that of TEAC on the esterification with vinyl esters. Trimethysilylated celluloses (TMSC) having degree of substitution over 2 were synthesized by the reaction with HMDS. They were soluble in chloroform, THF, toluene and DMSO. Some cellulose derivatives formed hard and transparent pellet by hot-press molding.
