一般注記Thegeometricfeaturesofclusteredshrinkagepores(CSP)inill-conditionedaluminumalloydiecastingswererevealedandtheireffectonthefatiguestrengthwasdiscussed.ToobtainthegeometricfeaturesofCSP,anobservationusingacommercialmicrofocusX-raycomputedtomography(X-rayCT)systemwascarriedoutandthepositionandsizeofCSPwereconfirmed.However,thedetailedgeometryoftheCSPcouldnotbeclearlyobservedbyX-rayCT,becauseeachporeintheCSPwastoosmalltoobserveowingtotheinsufficientresolutionoftheCTimage.Wedevelopedaserialsectioningsystemwithapolishingmachineandanopticalmicroscope.ObservationusingtheserialsectioningsystemclearlyshowedthataCSPconsistsofmanyinterconnectedsmallpores,whichformedanextremelycomplicatedshape.TheCSPwasthoughttogrowfromrelativelylargegaspores,whichconnecttosmallporesandconsequentlygenerateacavitywithahugevolumeandacomplicatedgeometry.ThecomplexgeometryofCSPresultedintheconcentrationofstressaroundCSP,andsignificantlyunderminesmechanicalpropertiessuchastensilestrengthandfatiguestrength.
