Image in art, especially in novels, are easily familiarized with us. They are grounds for us to live on. As we read novels, images are stored in ourselves, but they are always in danger of disappearing. Broadly speaking, what is a classic? But this question is also important to us Japanese. Instead of answering the question directly, I would like to read Pride and Prejudice with high school students. The novel is one of the classical novels in English literature among scholars. It is full of images and shows main features of the English language. We try to appreciate the most interesting scene or comicalone in which Mr Collins proposes to Elizabeth. If we read the chapter, we find one of the features that nouns are effectively used. Focuses of sentences are put in nouns while verbs or adjectives are always changed into nouns. It is no exaggeration to say that there are chains of idioms in every page of Pride and Prejudice. It needs some notes or introductory explanation for high school students to read. If they endeavor to read it, they will be given pleasure to live well.
