一般注記type:Article
The historical materials concerning the local markets of ancient Japan are scarce, which makes it difficult to investigate and disclose the actual conditions. This essay will analyze the excavation of the earthenware on which the word "市" (ichi: market) was written by China ink, although there has not been almost no comments on it so far. In consequence, the various types of local markets can be sorted out as follows: first, three types of markets existed around local public offices: (1) the markets near the ports which kuni (country) or kori (county) used, (2) the markets near the koku-fu, kuni's public offices, (3) the markets near the kori-no-miyake, in short, kori's public offices or the facilities for local government. Second, there are four types of markets existed in villages: (4) the markets near the rudiments of shoen (manors), (5) the markets near the general villages, (6) the markets near the graves, (7) the markets near the places where the saishi (rites) were held. As to each example among the seven types of markets, the characteristics will be mentioned in detail.
