日本マス・コミュニケーション学会の2020年秋季研究発表大会にて、メインシンポジウム「障害とメディア」を企画した。申請者（烏谷）は、討論者として登壇し、以下の点を論じた。
（１）オリンピックとパラリンピックが一体化し、メディアの注目度が高まることで、パラアスリートのスター化と呼ばれる現象が起きてきた。スター化現象そのものは不可避だが、そのスターにどんな価値を代表させていくのかはしっかりと考えるべき問題である。ロンドンパラリンピックは素晴らしいレガシーを残したが、スーパーヒューマンというパラリンピックのアピールの仕方は、一般の障害者との間に意識の隔絶を生み出したという点を重く考えるべきである。
（２）1964年のパラリンピック東京大会はどのようなレガシーを残したのだろうか。当時の日本チームの弱さは日本の福祉国家としての脆弱さを表していた。だから、障害者スポーツの強化と日本の福祉環境を改善することが密接に結びついていた。だが、商業化したオリンピックと一体化したパラリンピックにおいては、選手を強くすることと共生社会を実現することがかつてほど強く結びついていないのではないか。
（３）スポーツの分野に限らず、メディアは障害者のスター化現象を引き起こしている。例えばサヴァン症候群と呼ばれる一部の能力が突出した知的障害者や自閉症の人々が映画やテレビドラマで注目されてきた。だが、障害者の中で特別な能力を持つ者はごく一部の人間であり、大半の障害者は特別な能力を持つことなく生きている。普通の障害者が抱える平凡な悩みや本音を引き出す『バリバラ』のような番組が持つ意義は極めて大きい。
The applicant (Kasudani) organized the main symposium "Disability and Media" at the 2020 Autumn Meeting of the Japan Society for Studies in Journalism and Mass Communication. The applicant took the stage as a debater and discussed the following points.
(1) With the integration of the Olympics and the Paralympics and the increasing attention of the media, a phenomenon called the starring of para-athletes has occurred. The phenomenon of making athletes into a star itself is inevitable, but what kind of value the star should represent is an issue that should be firmly considered. The London Paralympics have left a great legacy, but it should be taken seriously that the Superhuman appeal of the Paralympics created a gap of consciousness with the general disabled.
(2) What kind of legacy did the 1964 Paralympic Tokyo Games leave behind? The weakness of the Japanese team at that time reflected Japan's weakness as a welfare state. Therefore, strengthening athletes with disabilities and improving the welfare environment in Japan were closely linked. However, in the Paralympics integrated with the over-commercialized Olympics, strengthening athletes and realizing an inclusive society may not be as strongly linked as ever.
(3) Not limited to the field of sports, the media is causing the phenomenon of making people with disabilities into a star. For example, people with intellectual disabilities and autism who have some prominent abilities called Savant syndrome have been attracting attention in movies and TV dramas. However, only a small number of people with disabilities have special abilities, and most people with disabilities live without special abilities. The significance of TV programs such as "Barrier-Free-Variety" that bring out the everyday worries and honest intentions of ordinary people with disabilities is vital.
