昨年度に引き続き、初期近代英国演劇古版本の書誌学研究を行った。近年、多くのデータベースがネット上に公開され、研究者の利便性を高めているが、初期近代のロンドンで印刷された書物の出版を具体的に検証する分析書誌学においては、「研究用電子データ資料の集積書庫」たるデジタルデータベースのみでは、充分な研究成果は上がらない。その意味で、本研究ではデジタル化された書物よりも、むしろ当時の印刷所で実際に制作された書物そのものを収集、活用し、オリジナルな「古版本」の解析から判明する書誌学情報を集積して、初期近代演劇の印刷と出版文化についての研究を行った。
本年度購入した英国演劇関連史料として特筆すべきは、シェイクスピア二つ折り作品集初版のFirst Folio が印刷された1623年に、同じJaggard 印刷所が印刷したAndre Favyn著 *The Theater of Honour and Knight-hood*という二つ折り本である。今年度の購入で、併せて複数のコピーを入手することが出来、コピーごとの差異も検証できる環境が整いつつある。昨年度は、Thomas Wilson 著 *A Christian Dictionary* を購入できた。これはJaggard 印刷所が、First Folioを印刷した前年の1622年に印刷した四つ折り本で、First Folioとtypographical な共通点を持っていることは広く知られている。*Theater of Honour* は、First Folioと同年のほぼ同時期に並行して印刷された重要な書物で、他方 *A Christian Dictionary* もその後半の一部とFirst Folio の前半の一部が同時期に印刷されており、こちらでも同じ活字やornament が使われている。これによりJaggardが1622年から23年に印刷した二つ折り本と四つ折り本の2タイトルが（とくに *Theater of Honour* は複数冊）揃った。この両者を使用することで、それぞれの印刷形態を詳細に分析し、First Folio を出版したJaggard 印刷所の印刷特性を、今後も継続して探索する予定である。
Bibliographical analysis of William Jaggard's books printed in 1622-23 has been conducted, based mainly on Andre Favyn's *The Theater of Honour and Knight-hood; Or A Compendious Chronicle and Historie of the Whole Christian World* (1623), a book printed by Jaggard in the year he published Shakespeare's First Folio. A copy of Thomas Wilson's *A Christian Dictionary* (1622) was already acquired last academic year, in the hope of disclosing more details of the printing process of the books printed by Jaggard in 1622-23, during which he produced Shakespeare's First Folio. The private copies of the two titles, especially more than two copies of *The Theater of Honour*, will enhance the process of research concerning the book production and the business of Jaggard's printing-house in 1622-23. Further research using other editions printed by him is also planned for the forthcoming years.
