• 一般注記: 出版タイプ： VoR; type:text; 本研究では、15世紀半ばにヨーロッパ初の活版印刷による出版物としてドイツのマインツにてヨハン・グーテンベルクによって印刷された聖書(通称『42行聖書』)と、グーテンベルクの後継として印刷所を共同で運営したヨハン・フストとペーター・シェーファーの印刷所が出版した書物の色彩と彩飾の分析を行った。 グーテンベルク聖書については、当初の計画通りトリーア市立図書館所蔵コピーの手描きの彩飾と朱書きを分析し、携わった彩飾画家を突き止めたのみならず、本コピーがフスト＝シェーファー印刷所に所有されていたことを明らかにした。分析の成果は、国際的な書誌学関連の学会誌に投稿すべく、論文執筆を進めている。（ただし、この調査については本助成金額が不足していたため別資金の助成により遂行した。） フスト＝シェーファー印刷所の色彩と彩飾分析については、50年近く活動した本印刷所の色彩利用のパターンを分析し、本印刷所が、初期では野心的な手法で多色刷りを実現したものの、時代が下るにつれ、ある程度の品質を保ち、なおかつ顧客のニーズに目を配りつつも効率化を進めていったことを明らかにした。その中で、比較的保守的な顧客層が見込まれる大型の典礼書などは、手間のかかる多色刷りを行い続けた状況が浮かび上がった。本成果をまとめた論文は、Brill社出版の論文集に掲載予定である。 さらに、ケンブリッジ大学図書館に依頼し、フスト＝シェーファー印刷所の一部の作品の青色インクの科学分析を進めた。インディゴ、アズライト、ウルトラマリンなどが検出されたがその解釈は難しく、同大学の分析チームや印刷インクの専門知識を有する研究者と意見交換を行った。青色インクについては引き続き分析と検討が必要である。（なお、本分析については一部を別資金の助成により遂行した。） This project aimed to analyse colour and decoration of books published by the two earliest printing shops active in Mainz in the latter half of the fifteenth century, the printing shop that issued the Gutenberg Bible (the 42-line Bible) and that run by Johann Fust and Peter Schöffer. As planned, the copy of the Gutenberg Bible kept at the City Library of Trier was analysed. Through a thorough examination of its hand-painted illuminations, decorative initials, and hand-written rubrics, I was able to identify the illuminators and demonstrate that the copy was once owned by Fust and Schöffer’s printing shop. I am preparing to submit an article detailing the results of this study to an international journal of bibliography. (Due to the shortage of this funding, this project was fully funded by a different grant.) I also analysed the changing use of colour and decoration in Fust and Schöffer’s printing shop over the nearly fifty years of its activity. Through the analysis I was able to show that in the early period, the shop experimented with various methods to produce multi-coloured products, but in later works the publishers attempted to balance between quality and efficiency while accommodating the demands of the market, mainly by reducing colours. It also became clear that the shop continued to prepare multi-coloured books for those genres that envisaged relatively conservative groups of buyers, such as large-sized liturgical books. The results of this study are expected to be published in a collected volume to be published from Brill. Furthermore, in order to find out what kinds of blue inks were used by Fust and Schöffer’s shop, I requested the Cambridge University Library an ink analysis of some of the Fust-Schöffer publications. Indigo, azurite, and ultramarine were detected in the course of the analysis. The results were discussed with the Cambridge team as well as a specialist of printing inks, but it was not possible to achieve a consensus on how to interpret the results. More examination is needed to fully understand what kinds of blue ink were used by Fust and Schöffer and how. (Due to the shortage of this funding, this project was partly funded by a different funding.)
