- 出版タイプ： VoRCNNは，TBS (Turner Broadcasting System lnc.)傘下の会社であり，1日24時間，全米のケーブルテレビ向けにニュース番組を提供している。後に，CNNはもう一つの24時間放送のHeadline Newsをスタートさせた。現在，CNNはアメリカだけでなく全世界に向けてニュースの配信を行っている。日本は，CNNを受ける国々の一つであるが，視聴者は一部の者に限られており，CNNの全貌についてはあまり知られていない。CNNの歩み，運営，組織，番組編成の全体について検討を加え，何故CNNが今日の成功をみたかを明らかにする。CNNはテレビ・ニュースの世界を支配している3大ネットワークに対抗し，テレビ・ジャーナリズムの新しい分野を開拓する。今では，CNNが世界のテレビ・ニュース機関に成ろうとしていることは明らかであり，グローバル・ワイドでのマスコミを志向していると思われる。国内では、CNNとHeadline Newsの二つのチャンネルを巧みに使い分けて，視聴者のニーズに応えている。番組の詳細を検討することによって，CNNとは，どんなテレビ・ニュース機関かについて考察する。Cable News Network, Inc. (CNN) is a subsidiary of TBS (Turner Broadcasting System Inc.). CNN is well known as an exclusive news channel which provides a 24-hour news programming service available to cable system throughout the U.S. Later, it initiated an additional 24-hour news service, Headline News. At present, CNN is broadcasting TV news not only to the U.S, but to the would at large. Japan is one- of the countries which receive CNN's broadcasts, but the audience is limited. The whole image of CNN is not being given to us yet. In the present essay I considered the reason why CNN has had such a great success, examining CNN'history, management, organization, programming and so on. CNN challenged the major 3 networks, CBS, NBC, ABC which had dominated the TV news world, and succeeded in developing a new TV journalism. It is now clear that CNN has a plan to become a leading world TV news organization. It seems to me that CNN appears as a global mass medium. In the domestic area, CNN is effectively servicing to its audience through two channels, CNN and Headline News. I consider here what kind of news organization CNN is, by examining its programs in detail.
