要約等: The purpose of this study was to clarify the descriptive content about the ancient Olympics in Taisei Shikan (Outlines of the history of Western countries). This book is a retranslation of the Dutch translation of German original. Taisei Shikan contains a wide range of information about the ancient Olympics : its origin, its events, its social function, Olympiad (a period of four years), the honor of winners, the qualification of the participants, the ancient Olympic truce, the fusion of sport competition and the arts, the ancient Olympics as a religious festival. The ancient Olympics in Taisei Shikan are described from various viewpoints and are not interpreted as mere sport competition.
