Thermal transient strength test of reactor vessel model; Vol.7 Ultrasonic testing and acoustic emission monitoring
This report is one of 12 volumes describing the testing and analytical results associated with thermal transient strength test of reactor vessel model. The objective of the test is to validate the creep-fatigue damage evaluation method described in "MONJU Design Guide". The contents of this report are the results of ultrasonic testing (UT) and acoustic emission monitoring (AE) during thermal transient cycles for crack ditection. The main results are as follows; (1)The base metal and the welding joint of 25mm thick and 40mm thick portions were examined by UT. During UT period, sodium at 200$^{\circ}$C was flowing in the model. The UT was effective and showed many defect indications. After that, the testing model was cut into some pieces, then we confirmed cracking at every UT indications. (2)The results of continuous AE monitoring during thermal transient of 1002 cycles showed that the increasing rates of the event number and ring down count number clearly changed at about 700 cycles.
