タイトル(掲載誌)宇宙開発事業団技術報告 = NASDA Technical Memorandum
一般注記This report has discussed the results of the research for space transportation systems that will be capable of meeting the various needs of future space activity users. Increased efficiency, reduced costs, and improved operation flexibility in the method used to reach low earth orbit will be keys to further space activity. To achieve these objectives, a scenario has been proposed for the development of Japan's space transportation systems that is targeted on the reusable concept. It is believed that it is possible to efficiently work toward these goals by first applying the concept of unmanned operation and automation technologies to allow the recovery and reuse of the launch vehicle lower stage (the overall performance of which is less influenced by its weight increases), and then gradually expanding the range of the efforts to encompass the other elements of the transportation system. Based on this scenario, one sample concept has been presented for a reusable booster that makes use of the component parts of the existing H-2 rocket. Regardless of the selected vehicle concept, Japan's space transportation systems is believed to be able to survive by seeking out original technology, and concentrating the efforts and resources in these areas. Then a position of technological diversity can be maintained that will allow international participation in both competitive and collaborative relationships.
