一般注記In human factor research on aircraft control, there have been several attempts to integrate cockpit information necessary for pilots. As one such attempt, the first prototype Head Up Display (NAL-10 HUD) system for civil use was manufactured and evaluated by a simulation test at the National Aerospace Laboratory in 1971.The NAL-10 HUD was fully digitized, and made use of a software system to increase the flexibility of the dispaly formats for the use of initial stage research. In 1972,NAL-20 HUD,which was improved from NAL-10 HUD,was constructed for the second stage research, the flight test. The flight evaluation test was conducted at Nagoya airport from March 19 to 21,1973.The test aircraft was a twin turboprop transport YS-11(No.1,JA 8611).The goal of the flight test was achieved and implications were obtained. Some of them derived from the pilot commentary were that it was easy to obtain such information as direction and attitude, and that the HUD decreased pilot workload, especially when he needed an outside view during the flight phase of approach and landing. It was found from the flight records that the pilot seemed to get accustomed easily to the HUD.Pilots suggested several improvements for further practical use, concerning the necessities of precise bank indication, suppression of signal noise of digitally displayed information, and widening the semi-transparent display field of HUD.
