一般注記Comparison of different counting methods is presented together with the effect of eliminating small amplitude variations on the frequencies. Using digital computer, two kinds of Gaussian noise, low pass filtered and band pass filtered, were simulated and the frequencies were counted by level crossing count, peak count, zero-crossing peak count and range-mean count methods. The first three methods showed a good agreement with Rice’s theoretical solution in the higher level, but differed each other in the lower level. When the eliminated amplitude was increased the differences between the three methods decreased, but the differences of the three methods from Rice’s solution increased. Range-mean counts were sensitive to the magnitude of the eliminated amplitude and the effect of eliminating small amplitude varied with the shape of power spectral density and the magnitude of the amplitude counted. Also, comparison was made between the range-mean counts and the amplitude frequencies calculated from the three methods of counting mentioned above.
