一般注記Argon plasma was investigated spectroscopically in the plenum chamber and the test section of the NAL arc-heated low density wing tunnel. The excitation temperature Tex, determined by relative intensity measurements of blue AI lines, and the electron density ne, derived from the Stark broadening of hydrogen Balmer lines, were used to examine the stagnation condition in the plenum chamber at a nondimensional enthalpy of up to 94 with pressure between 0.6 and 0.95 atm. The result showed that an LTE (Local Thermodynamic Equilibrium) state was attainable in the plenum chamber at a high enthalpy range. In the test section, the variation of Tex along a nozzle was measured and a large deviation of Tex from kinetic temperature was observed as predicted by nonequilibrium nozzle flow calculations. Molecular spectra excited in the flow were analyzed and the role of metastable atoms and recombination processes on long duration emission of jets was discussed.
