一般注記With the advancement in the additive manufacturing technology, sophisticated structures, that was conceptual and difficult to realize, are ready to fabricate at low cost. However, mechanical characteristics of structures and materials created with the additive manufacturing technique are known to be susceptible to process variables involving the manufacturing. This paper studies influences of different process variables and constituent materials on additively manufactured structures with a series of tensile test experiments and sensitivity analysis with a statistical approach. Based on the statistical sensitivity analysis, the nozzle temperature showed a great influence on both stiffness and strength among three process variables (nozzle temperature, nozzle speed, and layer height). The experiments showed that the printing direction had a huge effect on the strength. Also, a composition of discontinuous carbon fibers and thermoplastics could diminish the thermal effects involving the nozzle temperature and speed.
