Recently, the number of students who read the newspaper has been decreasing even though an increasing number ofstudents access online news obtained through major research engines. With reference to newspapers in education, research onthe use of electronic newspapers in order to adapt to the present situation is necessary. In the present paper, users’ perceptionand evaluation of articles in community-based electronic newspapers is examined. An online questionnaire survey wasconducted for the users of KAHOKU Shimpo, which has a regional community in the area of Tohoku in Japan. Resultsshowed that there are common criteria for users to evaluate articles of both online and paper. The result of users’ evaluation oftop-shared articles indicated that users’ evaluations are not necessarily correspond to the general result of “share” by means ofonline communication.
