Gillies, Deputy Civil Administrator.Ryukyu and American representatives last year concluded a ”mutually-satisfactory” land rental program which Washington approved last November. The check, presented at a ceremony in Naha, represents an initial working fund for the Ryukyuan government which will negotiate new basic leases with Ryukyuan landowners under the program worked out by American-Ryukyuan officials.In presenting the check, the first increment of approximately six million dollars for land rental payments in the 1959 fiscal year, the High Commisioner told Ryukyuan officials, ”I am sure that all of you agree with me that as problems arise in the future, the best solution can again be worked out on the basis of mutual understanding, cooperation and good will as was done on the land program.”
