一般注記The Research has focusing on selected of the building in well-known traditional tourist towns; Amphawa, Thailand and Ninenzaka/ Sanneizaka, Japan, the study is to find compartmentalizing of the community; what are the key changes that impact values of the place though time and to find the appropriated approach to lead municipal authorities to identify and clarify culturally dependent and place-oriented value categories. Thailand, Amphawa, focusing on how private individuals modify their cultural elements and historical structures conduct in 2012-2013, the users’ and guests’ points of view on modification of traditional houses to homestays. The idea of change could keep characteristic of the place by stimulating the use of traditional buildings along the canal can revive traditional community and value of the place both tangible and intangible. Japan, the study focus on the relationship between changes in building use from the aspect of the user in the Ninenzaka and Sanneizaka Preservation District for historical buildings in Kyoto. Based on a field survey study in 2013-2014 and a detailed map produced in 1977, 1999; this study analyses the change of building use and user modifications for urban conservation in Japan. Most of the buildings in the Ninenzaka and Sanneizaka have been transformed from shop-houses (Machiya) and dwelling houses in the past to become fully functional commercial stores. Only the facade was restored after the area was designated as the first preservation district in 1976. In conclusion, it can analyze the factor of the transformation of infrastructures and building use through user’s awareness and community change with the idea of the bottom up process on conserving historical buildings; ecotourism by activity base in Amphawa and regulation base for control tourist and keep identity of the place in Ninenzaka-Sanneizaka, to promote and retain their identity with the changing times.
