- The sedimentary history and tectonic evolution of the Middle to Upper Paleozoic and Lower Jurassic strata of the Hida Gaien belt based on lithostratigraphy, zircon U–Pb ages, provenance analysis of sandstones, and geochemical analysis of volcanic rocks are presented in this doctoral dissertation. The Devonian to Lower Carboniferous stratigraphy of the Hida Gaien belt is characterized by a change in dominant lithology from clastic rocks and limestones to volcanic rocks. Based on the modal/chemical compositions of the sandstones and the zircon U-Pb ages, the Devonian sediments were derived from a multi-source provenance composed of various arc basements such as granites and basalts, uplifted and exposed during the Early Devonian (406 Ma) to Middle Devonian (386 Ma). This provenance changed into a monogenetic provenance of basaltic andesites and rhyolites in the Early Carboniferous (346 Ma). Early Carboniferous bimodal volcanic rocks have been recognized in the South Kitakami belt, the eastern margin of the South China block (the Hainan Island), and the Jilin area (NE China) of the eastern Central Asian Orogenic Belt (CAOB), suggesting the existence of a series of magmatic activity along the western margin of the Paleo-Pacific Ocean during this period. The detrital zircon U-Pb ages of the Devonian strata consist mainly of 460-420 Ma and 540-480 Ma, which were derived from arc basements of similar ages to the South Kitakami and Kurosegawa belts, the Jiamusi-Khanka-Bureya (NE China to Far Eastern Russia) and Songliao-Xilinhot (Inner Mongolia) blocks in the eastern CAOB, and the eastern South China and Indochina blocks. The Devonian strata also contain detrital zircons derived from the Grenvillian tectonothermal event (ca. 1000 Ma), suggesting a sediment supply from the South China block and NE Gondwana (the Lachlan Orogen). Detrital zircon U-Pb age spectra similar to those of the Devonian strata of the Hida Gaien belt are observed in Silurian to Devonian metasedimentary rocks of the Jilin area. During the Devonian to Early Carboniferous, the Hida Gaien belt, the eastern margin of the South China block, and the magmatic arcs and microcontinents in the eastern CAOB were located close to NE Gondwana along the western margin of the Paleo-Pacific Ocean. The Permian volcano-sedimentary strata of the Hida Gaien belt are characterized by Lower Permian felsic tuffs, Middle Permian andesites and sandstones rich in volcanic detritus, and upper Middle to Upper Permian feldspathic sandstones (Suzuki and Kurihara, 2021). A combination of petrographic and geochemical analyses together with zircon U-Pb dating for the sandstones reveals a provenance change from an immature undissected arc with active felsic and intermediate volcanism during the Early-Middle Permian to a mature arc with basement uplift during the Late Permian. The uppermost Permian sandstone yields syndepositional zircons with 500–400 Ma zircons. Similar characteristics to those of Permian strata in the Hida Gaien belt are recognized in the eastern Central Asian Orogenic Belt in terms of detrital zircon ages and the change in dominant lithology from volcanic to clastic rocks. The zircon age distribution suggests that sediment was derived from the Permian arc and early Paleozoic basement which is consistent with the Jiamusi-Khanka-Bureya and Songliao-Xilinhot blocks. Thus, the Permian strata of the Hida Gaien belt are considered to have developed along a single subduction zone from the Paleo-Pacific to Solonker oceans. In particular, Permian strata of the Jilin area are lithostratigraphically similar to those of the Hida Gaien belt and have similar detrital zircon U–Pb ages. As such, Permian strata in both areas would have been deposited proximal to each other in the same tectonic setting along the single subduction. The Lower Jurassic strata (the Douden Formation) are composed mainly of alternating sandstone and mudstone with conglomerate and laminated sandstone (Suzuki et al., 2019). The Lower Jurassic strata were deposited in 189–181 Ma, constrained by the youngest detrital zircon age peaks. Based on the depositional age and lithostratigraphy, the Jurassic strata of the Hida Gaien belt can be correlated with the upper part of the Jyogodani Formation and the Kitamatadani Formation of the Lower Jurassic Kuruma Group in the Inugadake area. In addition, it can be correlated with the upper part of the Gamaharadani Formation in the Kotakigawa area. The lithofacies and zircon age distribution of the Lower Jurassic strata of the Hida Gaien belt are similar to those of the Jyogodani and Gamaharadani formations. These detrital zircon U-Pb ages of the Lower Jurassic strata of Southwest Japan show the age peaks of the Permian-Triassic and Early Jurassic, both of which are likely derived from the Late Permian-Early Triassic igneous rocks and the Early Jurassic granitoids in the eastern margin of the Sino-Korean block (the Hida-Oki belt and the Yeongnam massif) and the Zhangguangcailing Orogen between the Jiamusi and Songliao blocks in the eastern CAOB. During the Early Jurassic, the peripheral orogenic belt of the Sino-Korean block forming the Hida Gaien belt may have linked a subduction zone of the inland sea (the Mudanjiang Ocean) in the eastern CAOB. In summary, the Paleozoic strata of the Hida Gaien belt developed primordially along the peripheral orogenic belt of NE Gondwana, such as the Lachlan Orogen. Subsequently, the tectonic transition likely related to the Gondwana dispersion in the Late Devonian-Early Carboniferous led to strong linkage in sedimentation and arc volcanism between this belt and the eastern CAOB in the northern hemisphere until the Permian.新大院博(理)第477号
