This book is the first volume in a series of five and depicts the customs and manners of foreign countries with commentary. The contents are a mix of both fact and fantasy. Volume one focuses on eleven countries in Southeast and East Asia, including Daishinkoku (Qing China) and Ryukyukoku (Ryukyu Kingdom). This material can help us understand the social interest in foreign countries among the Japanese at the time.
