Summary: A Gothic story of murder, innuendo, suspicion and hatred. At a weekend gathering in Castle Vogeloed, a few aristocrats are awaiting Baroness Safferstätt. But Count Oetsch, suspected (but never convicted) of murdering his own brother, Baroness Safferstätt's first husband, shows up suddenly. The Baroness appears with her new husband and resents the man's presence but for reasons other than we assume. Oetsch stays, arguing that he is not the murderer but will find the real one. There are family secrets and the anti-hero is here to expose them and the real murderer
