「斎垣内（いわいのかきつ）」は岡山神社の神官で歌人・教育者の岡直廬（なおり）（１８４７〜１９３３）の号。本書は岡直廬自筆の歌や祝詞、文章をまとめたもの。各所に朱筆の添削があり、出版のための草稿本と推測される。巻頭に、国富友次郎と片山貞太郎が連名でこの本を作るに至るいきさつを記した文、椎園のあるじ海上□平の文（印刷物）が、巻末には明治４１年（１９０８）１月の荒木寧のあとがきが綴じられている。岡直廬著作部分の前半は、岡直廬が詠んだ古風歌の長歌や短歌、中古風歌の短歌など。後半には、岡直廬が撰んだ古文辞や中古文辞の祝詞・四季の詞・歌記・消息・説などを収録している。全体的に訂正や削除など推敲（すいこう）の跡が多く見られる。国富・片山の文に「斎垣内集二編と名付ぬ」とある。本書は、明治４０年（１９０７）国文学者正宗敦夫（まさむねあつお）（１８８１〜１９５８）を発行兼印刷人として出版された『斎垣内集二編』の草稿本である。（文責：岡山県立図書館）
