大岡忠友は明治６年（１８７３）勝南郡池ケ原村（現津山市池ケ原）に大岡熊次郎の長男として生まれた。大隈重信の秘書を勤めた後、大正５年（１９１６）に帰郷、のち高取村長、勝田郡農会長などを歴任し、昭和１７年（１９４２）に没した。本書は雑誌「岡山県教育界誌」と勝間田農林学校の「勝美会雑誌」に掲載された大岡忠友の明治３７年〜４４年（１９０４〜１１）ごろの論文の抜刷を集めて１冊にまとめたもの。収録されている論文は下記のとおりである。「理想と現実」・「学究的性格」・「学の真髄」・「道徳の基礎的観念」（以上「岡山県教育界誌」）、「容術に関する数理公式」・「語学発達史梗概」・「必須的生存条件トシテノ学問ヲ論ズ」・「吾人ノ処世的理想」・「農業生国家」・「家庭の真髄」・「謹で本校校旗制定の顛末を記す」・「物価変動の理法」「本校創立満十週年間に於ける可祝稀世の奇瑞」（以上「勝美会雑誌」）。（文責：岡山県立図書館）
