- Summary, etc.
- In high-speed diesel engines, a high injection pressure is one of the most effective means to reduce exhaust emissions such as particulates and oxides of nitrogen. To attain this without relying on complicated mechanisms of fuel injection, a new method of pressure boosting by means of dynamic effects in the pipeline that connects the fuel pump and the injector is studied both theoretically and experimentally. The results show that a convergent pipeline boosts the pressure at the nozzle due to such dynamic effects well if the period of the pressure feed is the same as or less than the propagation time of the pressure wave in the pipeline. Furthermore, the effects of design parameters on the capability of pressure boosting are discussed.
