- A three-year-old, female Shih Tzu with a history of dysphagia persisting since weaning had been kept on a liquid diet for about two years. The dog was referred to us because of difficulty in swallowing liquid food. Clinical signs, radiographic findings, and fluoroscopic examination after ingestion of food mixed with barium confirmed a diagnosis of cricopharyngeal achalasia. Four days later, we performed cricopharyngeal myotomy. After surgery, the dog no longer had difficulty swallowing food and was discharged on the third postoperative day. The dog has been clinically normal for 17 months.生後数カ月より採食直後の吐出が認められ, その後流動食の給餌により飼育されていた3歳で雌のシー・ズー犬を, X線透視下での機能検査により輪状咽頭筋アカラジァと診断し, 食道背側での輪状咽頭筋切開術を施した.術後は翌日から嚥下が可能になり, 17カ月を経過した現在でも症状の再発は認められていない.
