Summary, etc.

The Japan Human Factors and Ergonomics Society (JES) was established in 1964 to promote research and practice of Human Factors and Ergonomics (HFE). As the JES celebrates its 60th anniversary this year, I will report on the membership and current status over the past 25 years, and discuss the next direction the JES should take in the future. The number of members has decreased to half of its peak, which is a common challenge faced not only by the JES but also by many other academic societies. In order to further develop the field of HFE in the future, it is important for the JES to be recognized as a society that is familiar and attractive to young researchers. The JES plays an important role in the future of HFE as a society that contributes to society, and we must continue to work together to create a society that continues to innovate and grow.
