- Summary, etc.
- A model to describe the sigma phase precipitation in the weld heat affected zone (HAZ) of the duplex stainless steel has been proposed on the basis of the metallurgical principle. The purpose of this model is to provide a practically convenient way to predict the amount of sigma phase precipitation. The sigma phase precipitation can cause the embrittlement and selective corrosion in the HAZ, especially heated to between 600 and 1000 degrees C in duplex stainless steel.<br>The proposed model predicts the amount of sigma phase precipitation in the HAZ as a function of the cooling rate. That model formula consists of the constants determined by the chemical composition of the duplex stainless steel. The validity of the predicted results was confirmed by the close correlation between the results calculated with the proposed formula and the experimental data cited in the referenced papers.
