研究概要：1.研究の目的と方法沖縄県下の3カ町村を調査対象地とし、60〜70歳代の男女52人に対して、人生の出来事経験についての詳細な面接調査をおこない、出来事経験の種別、経験内容、年齢、時代背景などを、出生コーホート間およびコーホート内の下位集団で比較することを通じて、沖縄における人生の出来事経験の発達的・歴史的変化を把握し、そのメカニズムを探求するとともに、それの分析を通して、家族、職業、地域社会など個人がかかわる集団・社会的関係・制度的領域の動態についての洞察を得ることを目的とする。分析される人生上の出来事は、学卒、就職、結婚、子の出生、子の離家、退職といった、家族、教育、職業、地域社会において個人が取得する役割の重要な移行をもたらすと思われるものに限定した。 2.研究知見 (1)沖縄の人びとのライフコースの初期の段階には、戦前の沖縄農村の社会構造や文化的規範の影響が色濃く見られた。 (2)その一方で、昭和前半期の社会変動の過程に、沖縄の対象者も否応なく巻き込まれていった。とりわけ、戦争の影響は甚大であった。男性の多くは兵役を経験した。また、男性も女性も沖縄が戦場となったとき、戦闘員でもない人たちも戦火にまかれて家族を失った。 (3)戦後の復興期のなかで、人びとは、部分的には米軍統治下で新しい社会経済状況に適応しながら、またある部分は、沖縄の昔ながらの慣行を維持しながらライフコースを歩んできた。
1. Objective and Method Objective : Using both quantitative data on the timing of the life course events and qualitative data on the oral life history, comparison of Okinawan peoples lives between two different birth cohorts was used to depict the impact of social change on their life course, i.e. the timing of life course events such as school completion, starting work, leaving home, marriage, birth of children, empty nest, and death of family members. Method : Intensive interview on oral life history of fifty-two men and women born in 1914-1918 and 1924-1928 was undertaken in 1997 and 1998. Research area was the middle and south area of Okinawa Island. 2. Findings (1) Transition to adulthood of Okinawan people born in the Taisho and Showa era was shaped under the traditional rural Okinawan socio-cultural background. (2) Also, people's disastrous experiences during the World War II and Japan-US battle on the Okinawan Islands was characteristic of their transition to adulthood. Above all, many lost their family members who were killed in the war. (3) After the war, people lived their lives under the new social and economic conditions, such as large employment in the US military base camps and the other economic opportunities.
