「マイナス金利政策」（2016/2月実施）の効果波及経路については、標準的な経済学・金融論の考え方（「金利の期間構造の期待理論」や「資産市場の一般均衡モデル」）に基づき、多くの先行研究が理論的に明確に存在するとの見解を示している。この点は、「量的・質的j金融緩和政策」（QQE）のケースとは対照的である（QQEを効果は、期待通ずるものが主との見方が多い）。しかし、政策的なマイナス金利適用は日銀当座預金に限られるものであり、その貸借市場であるコール市場金利は同時にマイナス化しても、それ以外の金利への波及効果は、銀行行動の変化に依存すする。金利ゼロの現金が存在し、現金との裁定から預金金利も基本的にはマイナスにはなれない中で、収益悪化の恐れ等から銀行が貸出スタンスを積極化させることがなければ、標準的な理論の背景にある多くの市場間での金利裁定は、その出発点で働かず、マイナス金利政策の効果波及も限定的なものにある可能性が高い。実際、マイナス金利政策導入以降の、各種の金融統計データでみると、少なくとも9月の追加的な政策変更である「長短金利操作政策」（コール市場金利はマイナス維持）までの間は、明確な効果発現はみられない。長短金利操作政策以降の効果波及経路の変化、実際の影響、及び、一連の政策が銀行収益（特に、影響の大きい地域金融機関の収益）に与えた影響についての分析は、今後の研究課題である。
