本研究は、教材開発により本学教育の質向上を目指すものであり、学術研究論文等の成果は初めから企図していない。研究着手時には、統計教育大学間連携ネットワーク（JINSE）策定の統計学の「コアカ・リキュラム（経済・経営分野）」に準拠し、様々な現実のデータを用いて、実際に演習の場で学生に課題として課し、作業をさせながらデータの扱い方を学ばせる教材作成を考えていた。　実際に、時系列データの扱い（前年比と前期比）、データの季節性、要因分解等に関し教材を作成し、基礎演習（2年生）を中心に、一部は教養セミナー、専門演習等で実際に使用した。その結果判明したのは、本学学生にはより基礎的段階からのデータ教育が必要であることであり、途中からは、より基礎的内容の教材に重点を移し、平均、分散、四分位数、相関係数等統計学の基礎的概念に関する現実のデータを用いた教材を作成した。
