2019年11月にローマ教皇の日本訪問は、歴史的・政治的意義を持つ出来事であり、国内外問わずメディアの関心を集めることになった。また、長崎は被爆地、被爆者の存在に加え、キリスト教のゆりかごというメッセージの発信拠点としての役割や影響力があるとされている。本研究では、今回の教皇の訪問をめぐり、教皇が強調するテーマと長崎の地方メディアの報道の在り方や内容分析を行い、地方メディアならではの特徴を明らかにし、さらにSDGsの推進との関連を検討するものである。
