私たちが心理的・社会的ストレスを受けると、発熱が生じることがこれまでに知られていた。この発熱は心因性発熱と呼ばれ、その発生メカニズムについてこれまでに様々な研究が展開されてきた。一方で、この発熱がその後、生体にどのような影響を及ぼすのか、及ぼすとすればどのようなメカニズムが存在するのかについては不明だった。　今回、ストレス応答に重要な海馬歯状回に存在する神経幹細胞に温度センサータンパク質・TRPV4が多く発現することを発見した。そして、ストレスによる心因性発熱がTRPV4を異常活性化し、脳内免疫細胞であるマイクログリアによる神経幹細胞の貪食を促進することを発見した。本研究から、脳の温度受容体の活性化がストレス応答とその後の脳への影響に関与することや、そのメカニズムが明らかになった。　この研究成果は世界トップレベルの科学誌・Science Advancesに掲載になり、この研究内容は日本経済新聞web版で報道された。
