サービス・ラーニングとは、「サービス（貢献活動）とラーニング（学習）をつなげ、ボランティア活動を学外で行い、その活動体験を通して学びを獲得することを目指す教育（村上、2007）、以下SL」である。本研究では、外国からの来訪者の困りごとに関するヒアリングに基づき、母語によらず誰でも緊急時に意思表示ができるツールの開発を目指した。また、芳賀ゼミの3年生の専門演習内において、地域プロジェクト活動として「災害から命を守るために「備え」をしよう！」と「相浦川の実態とこれから」の2つの取り組みを行ったほか、公共政策学科の学生2名による「大学生の防災意識向上を目指して」と題した活動が行われた。大学生の防災意識の向上を目指した活動では、官学連携による防災情報伝達ツールや手法の向上や大学内でのイベントによる主体的な防災行動の獲得が提案された。
