前年度報告したアオモジ葉の抗糖化性が病態時でも発揮される作用なのか検討するために、2型糖尿病モデルマウスを用いた摂食実験を行い、同じクスノキ科の薬用植物であるクロモジの葉の場合と比較した。AIN-93G組成に準拠した純化食を対照食とし、対照食の2%をアオモジ葉粉末またはクロモジ葉粉末で置き換え成分調整した実験食を調製した。4週齢のKK-Ayマウスを1週間の順化後、各実験食を5週間自由摂食させた。その結果、生体内の終末糖化産物の一つであるペントシジンの血漿濃度に3群間で違いは認められなかった。別の糖化の指標となる糖化ヘモグロビン（HbA1c）の割合は、対照群に比べ、アオモジ群でやや低い傾向はあったものの有意差はなく、抗糖化作用は明確でなかった。炎症性マーカーの一つであるインターロイキン-6の血漿濃度も群間で違いはなく、高血糖条件下においては、アオモジ葉およびクロモジ葉の生理作用はマスクされることが示唆された。
