Note (General): High power sub terahertz gyrotrons are under development in FIR FU for application as a power source of collective Thomson scattering (CTS) diagnostics of fusion plasmas, especially of LHD high density plasmas. An output power of 83 kW was obtained at 388.9 GHz using the second harmonic oscillation. Succeeding to this result, new project has started to develop a higher power gyrotron. We have designed a 300 GHz band gyrotron with the fundamental harmonic oscillation aiming at more than 200 kW. For this purpose, the oscillation mode was carefully chosen. A new electron gun was also designed to produce a high quality laminar electron beam under a very high magnetic field. The gyrotron is equipped with an internal mode converter. At the moment, the maximum output power of 222 kW has been obtained at 294.2 GHz.
