Note (General): Gyrotron FU CW GIII has been developed as an improvement version of Gyrotron FU CW GII. A new electron gun has been designed to improve the quality of an electron beam and to increase output power. Designed operation mode is TE8 ,5. In the first experiment, maximum observed power was 74 W in spite of the expected one of more than 300 W. Moreover, a sub mode of TE3 ,5 was excited. We assume the cause of the power shortage and sub mode oscillation is in misalignment between gyrotron and magnetic coil axes. This assumption was demonstrated with mode competition calculations including the misalignment effect. After careful set-up of the gyrotron, the output power has been improved and maximum power of 420 W was obtained.
